Renewal Area Update
Not a huge amount to report. The work on Astbury Road should start shortly. It's less clear when anything much will happen elsewhere.
The current Executive Member for Regeneration has announced that he will resign in Febuary to take up a new job in political lobbying. Hopefully his sucessor will take a greater interest in this project - which I think tends to get overlooked in favour of bigger and more glamourous projects like the Elephant & Castle, Aylesbury and Canada Water regeneration projects.

It seems that they are relaying the pavements of Hollydale Road soon. They have dug up the small trees and spray painted on the ground to indicate the various underground pipes and have left tons of paving slabs and bricks close to the junction with Evelina Road.
There has also been a maildrop in Lugard Road regarding the concerns of the locals and the soon-to-be improvements.
Work has begun on Hollydale Road. The tarmac pavement is being replaced by paving slabs and bricks.
The small section completed so far looks good.
The work on Hollydale Rd is great - but as far as I know it's nothing to do with the Renewal Project team! I suspect it's being paid for out of the £300k the council got as "planning gain" when the new flats were built at the end of Lugard Rd.
I'm seeing the Renewal team manager on Wednesday so I'll have an update then.
Any update on regeneration plans for Evelina Rd? Or how I can get involved?
Hello. It is now nearly August. Is there any news on the Nunhead regeneration, such as the fabled Evelina Road shops facelift?
Excellent question Neil, it seems like Fiona has no answer to that question.
Do you know what's going on with this Fiona? I attended a community consultation meeting on this well over a year ago; then at last year's Nunhead Arts Festival, the proposed plans were displayed in the new development next to the Nun's Head. I haven't heard anything since.
It would be interesting to know how much cash they've already plundered on ineffective consultation and paper pushing. It both amazes and infuriates me that things like this - that communities pin their hopes on - should be so badly managed.
Cheers - and keep up the good work,
Doug
Sorry for going quiet on this. I absolutely share your concerns, in fact part of the reason for not blogging about it is because I find I can barely contain my anger and cynicism about this project.
Over the last year I've been taking my complaints up formally via a series of meetings with various Chief Officers of the council who have been investigating. I am still waiting to hear the full outcome of these investigations which include a financial audit of the project.
I'm meeting with the Director of Finance tomorrow. I will post an update after that.
Fiona
Thanks, I'll look out for it.
Doug
